Over the years I have come to appreciate certain supplies for homeschooling. It’s the little things that make a big difference in the flow & organization of our day. These are supplies that we use daily and that help me keep my sanity!

Post-It Tabs– We love open and go curriculum where you just do the next thing in the book. I mark our place in everything with these sticky tabs. Planners- marked with tabs. Books- marked with tabs. Guides- marked with tabs. Journals- marked with tabs. You get the point.

wooden drawers for homeschool storage

Drawers- We often joke that if you want to test an item for quality, longevity and endurance send it to our house. We are hard on stuff. Thus, plastic drawers have never held up around here. However, these lovely drawers are surviving our household so they get our seal of approval. The kids each have one and the drawers are labeled by subject. Each drawer is large enough to fit teachers guides and student notebooks. Plus, they have wheels so they can easily be moved around. Since we are in a home without a schoolroom right now these drawers are helpful in corralling homeschool stuff.

Printer- I use our printer daily. I cannot imagine homeschooling without it. We have this Canon printer right now and so far it has been worth every penny. I appreciate that it prints double-sided and has a copy feature. Our old printer didn’t do either of those things and while it worked, it was a real pain to have to re-load the paper in order to print on 2 sides. And to make copies I had to go to the UPS store- not very convenient.

Laminator- I’m not sure why laminating things brings such happiness- but I know I cannot be the only one out there that finds joy in laminating?!? It just makes things so fresh and sturdy! Plus, it helps things last through multiple children or multiple uses. We have a Scotch Thermal Laminator similar to this one (I don’t think they make our exact model anymore). Get yourself one and feel some happy while you laminate away!

magnetic white board

Small magnetic, dry erase boards- We use these boards every single day. I use them with our seven-year-old for All About Reading tiles, handwriting and to solve math problems together. My 12-year-old daughter and I use one for completing Latin exercises, math, and spelling. Sometimes she uses them for drawing her anatomy and cartography memorization. At 11″ x 14″, they are very easy to move around the house. I bought ours at Target, but found this one that is similar.

Dry erase markers with magnets and erasers- We love these. No searching for an eraser or having to wipe things off with your fingers. Sticks to our magnetic dry erase boards so they are always within reach. Love that!

Planner- As I’ve said before, I am a paper planner gal! I absolutely love planners and I have tried many. Right now we are enjoying a Charlotte Mason inspired planner page from A Living Education Etsy store here. My 12 year-old daughter uses a checklist style planner called My Student Logbook. You can learn more about them here. For 2019/2020 I will be using a Golden Coil planner. Read this Golden Coil Planner post to see a review of these custom planners.

stand up pen case

Mead Five Star pencil cases that stand up– Love these! My kids each have two. One is full of pens and pencils for everyday use. The second contains glue sticks, scissors, and tape for my son and colored pencils for my daughter. These are portable and travel well. I purchased ours at Walmart, but found them here, too.

Draw and Write Journals- In the early years, we like to keep one bound notebook that holds all of the student’s work. Copywork goes into this notebook. Artwork goes into this notebook. Narrations go into this notebook. Everything goes into this notebook! Rather than having to keep track of multiple notebooks for multiple subjects or loose pages for a 3-ring binder, we find it much easier to just use one notebook. Best decision ever. We love these notebooks for the early years as they have half page for drawing and half with penmanship lines for handwriting practice.

Tea & hot cocoa- I’m not kidding…Keep a variety around. Latin is so much easier with a cup of hot cocoa! A nice warm drink just makes things better. My 7-year-old son loves to say, “Mom, I am having a tea break now.”

Baskets & Bookshelves- You can never have enough space for books!

homeschool supplies

And according to my 7 year old son LEGOS are a necessity. When I am reading aloud he is allowed to quietly play with his legos or color:) Having items to keep little hands busy is important… but that’s a post for another day!
